OUR CALENDAR STORIES
White Knight
There are exceptions to every rule – and White Knight is one of them. Union Army guidelines required horses to be dark colors, geldings (not mares or stallions,) 15 hands high, 4-10 years of age and weighing at least 950 lbs. Most horses were trained under saddle before being sold to the Union Army, but all had to learn to overcome fear and march into battle. Many people wonder how horses are trained to Living History. Usually riders bring them to events surrounded by other seasoned veteran horses who will show them there is no reason to panic. Horses are herd animals so they will look to each other for signs of danger.
